Doctors Hospital Welcomes New Chief Executive Officer

Doctors Hospital of Laredo and the Board of Governors are proud to announce Emma Maria Montes-Ewing has been named Chief Executive Officer. Montes-Ewing has 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. For the past six years she has served as the CEO for Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas, where her many accomplishments included strengthening the Primary Care base through recruitment of new providers and opening a new 20-bed Behavioral Health Unit. She was also instrumental in developing a Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy program, and implementing the Rural Surgical Resident Program.

Montes-Ewing began her career in healthcare as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and was promoted up through the ranks to serve as hospital CEO. Prior to her role at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, Montes-Ewing served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Assistant CEO for San Angelo Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. Earlier in her career, she served as the Administrative Specialist for Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.

She earned her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, as well as an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology and a major in International Business and Communications from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

Montes-Ewing believes in giving back to the community and working together in order to grow together. In 2017, she was the recipient of the Russ McEwen Community Hero Award recognizing her commitment to rebuilding and adding new hospital services and improving the hospital’s reputation in Howard County. She serves on the Board of Trustees for Howard Junior College, is past Board Member of the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce, past Board President of the Texas Midwest Healthcare Executives ACHE chapter and past Board President of the Alliance for Women and Children in Abilene.
