Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Doctors Hospital of Laredo

Learn more about the team at Doctors Hospital.

Medical Staff

Your attending physician is primarily responsible for your care. All tests, medications, and consultations with other specialists are performed or administered under your attending physician's supervision. If you were not under the care of a physician affiliated with Doctors Hospital when you were admitted to the Hospital, a physician will be assigned to you. Physicians, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and pathologists are not employees of Doctors Hospital but rather a contracted service. You may receive a separate bill for any services provided by them.

Nursing Staff

Our nursing staff is committed to providing comprehensive care to patients, each of whom requires a different level of personal attention and expert skills. You will be assigned a registered nurse who will coordinate a thorough nursing assessment, plan of care, and continuous monitoring of your health status throughout your hospitalization. Other care givers, under the direction of the registered nurse, will be assigned to care for you. A Nurse Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care on each unit. Please feel free to contact your nurse or the Nurse Manager if you have questions or concerns.

Social Workers

Social workers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social, and emotional problems that relate to illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with you and your family with concerns related to your illness and are involved in discharge planning. To speak with a social worker, you, your family, your physician, or nurse should call the Case Management Department at 956-523-2510.

Spiritual Care

Available 24-hours-a-day, the chaplaincy team consists of volunteer clergy members, including Catholic priests, ministers, pastors, deacons and Eucharistic ministers. The program also includes representatives from the Laredo Church of Christ and several independent Christian churches. Representatives from other denominations may be called upon request. In addition to leading weekly worship services in the hospital’s Meditation Room, members of the team are available to provide spiritual counseling to patients and their family members and friends, as well as hospital staff. To contact the Chaplaincy Program, call 956-523-2004.

Housekeepers

Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the housekeeping staff. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell your nurse, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.

Volunteers

Volunteers contribute many hours of service and financial assistance to the Hospital. They supplement the services of the hospital staff in many ways and can be identified by their green jackets with a "Volunteer" monogram and name tags. Among the many services they provide, they can: deliver books and magazines to you from the volunteer library and deliver your purchases from the Gift Shop. If you need a volunteer's help or know of a patient who may appreciate a friendly visit, call 956-523-2021.

Other Personnel

During your stay you may be visited by other healthcare professionals, including technicians, technologists, and therapists. In addition, the Doctors Hospital family includes many behind-the-scenes workers, such as accountants, engineers, secretaries, food service workers, and others who contribute greatly toward your well-being while you are here.
