Patient Safety

Safety for all patients is a priority at Doctors Hospital of Laredo.

Smoke Free Environment

Cigarettes and smoking materials are not sold at Doctors Hospital and smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the hospital. Patients, visitors, and staff may smoke only in the designated smoking area which is located outside at the main entrance.

Fire Drills

For your protection, the hospital conducts fire and disaster drills regularly. If a drill occurs while you are here, please remain in your room and do not become alarmed. The hospital is a fire-resistant building and the staff is trained in fire protection.

Medications

All medicine that you receive in the hospital is reviewed, prepared, and delivered by a licensed and registered pharmacist. The pharmacist screens your medications to make sure there is no potential for drug interactions and that you are not given any drug to which you might be allergic.

Valuables or Lost Items

Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. If you do bring anything of value, it should be deposited in the safe in the Cashier's Office located on the ground floor in the hospital lobby. You will be given a written receipt for all items, which must be presented when you withdraw them. The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of value unless they are deposited in the safe. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately, who will report the loss to Risk Management.

Cellular Phones

In an effort to insure the safety and well being of all our patients, the hospital Safety Committee has determined that cellular telephones and radio transmitters should not be used in the hospital. Cellular telephones must be turned completely off because the devices transmit even in standby mode.
