Doctors Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Designated as Level III NICU
Doctors Hospital of Laredo (DHL) is pleased to announce it has received designation as a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care service provider from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Neonatal levels of care designation is a result of legislation passed in 2013 for the purpose of ensuring neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) have the expertise and resources needed to comply with mandatory rules guiding provision of appropriate high-quality care.
“By achieving NICU Level III Designation, DHL will be able to provide specialized and quality care to our high-risk newborn babies,” says Selvan Murugan, RN, MSN, MBA, MHA, FACHE, Chief Nursing Officer. “Our NICU is equipped with advanced medical technology required for a wide range of conditions, including comprehensive care for critically ill babies, those born as early as 23 weeks gestational age, and for babies with a variety of congenital, respiratory and infectious conditions. NICU Level III designation will help us to keep the babies and families in the community and provide best possible care without transferring them to different cities.”
DHL’s Level III NICU is supported by neonatologists who provide specialized care for babies born prematurely or with special needs. “We help moms not just with taking care of their babies, but with their needs as well,” says Gilda Villarreal, RN, Nursery/NICU Manager.
